Spring

It's been the best spring I can remember in years. Cool mornings have been great for my spring vegetables (asparagus, lettuce, pea pods, carrots, kale) and it's been so fun to have Ruthie get excited about helping me plant and water and harvest! We've also enjoyed many warm afternoons and evenings of neighborhood walks, deck chilling, golfing and playgrounds galore. A highlight was visiting Grandma and Grandpa Wellnitz at their camper and playing there with her cousins. She got her first marshmallow and was pretty excited about it. There we also celebrated what would have been my Grandpa Alvin Kuhl's 100th birthday with rhubarb pie and grape pop- his favorites. Swimming lessons started out rough but got much better the last couple of weeks and now that they are over hopefully we are warmed up enough to the idea it will be a summer of much fun in the water!

Ruthie says

While Mike was mowing the lawn shirtless the other day, yelling from the deck down to the lawn: "That's a nice behwee (belly)!" I died laughing, which made her say it 16 more times. It was glorious!

Hey Ruthie, what do you want for breakfast today?: "A BUNCHA pancakes! "

Her love of school buses continues... "I seeya skooobus! Ovahdare!" Pointing out school buses here and there and everywhere!

When the daycare teachers asked her what she loves about mommy (for my mother's day card) they report to me that Ruthie replied, "She only eats dog food!"   ??What?! Thanks Ruthie.

Phases: H2Oh Hell No!

Ruthie's latest phase has overcome her with a sudden hate/fear/unwillingness to go happily into any water. This includes baths. Sigh. The once happy half hour of play I used to get out of a bath seems long gone. This also includes swimming pools. Which inconveniently means swimming lessons for the last 2 and next 4 weeks. Sigh. She screams, she cries. I force her anyway. We struggle. Mike tries, struggles slightly less? maybe? regardless, not fair.
My experience with her little personality has me led to believe that most of her phases last a week or so. We've exceeded that. So now what? I've tried new bath toys, over the top fake excitement, threats, bribes, etc. Will take suggestions!
